Most people understand the basic concept of the metaverse. But many don’t know how to get involved. At RLTY, we think the easiest way to learn about the metaverse is to attend some virtual events.
So we created an intro guide to join your first metaverse gathering.
Several open metaverse apps exist, but this guide focuses on the most popular worlds: Decentraland and The Sandbox. Major brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Forever 21 have launched successful events on these platforms.
RLTY partnered with The Sandbox earlier this year to provide an easy-to-use, no-coding toolkit for brands to plan, create and launch immersive experiences for their communities. To say the least, we’re pretty bullish on Decentraland and the Sandbox.
So how do you attend a metaverse event?
What You’ll Need to Attend the Metaverse?
- A computer with a capable browser
- A crypto wallet (more info below)
- A ticket, coordinate, or link to the event you want to attend
Creating a Crypto Wallet
A crypto wallet is a tool that stores your crypto assets, like coins and NFTs. Although there are many wallet options with different pros and cons, we’ll make this as simple as possible for you.
Metamask is the most popular option. You’ll need to sign up for the wallet and install the browser extension. Check out this guide if you need a detailed walkthrough of how to set it up. You can sign up on the Metamask website here.
How to Join a Metaverse Event (step-by-step instructions)
1. Find your metaverse event link or location
The first thing you’ll need is a link or ticket to the metaverse event you want to attend. Once you have that, just click on the link, and it will take you there! Alternatively, you can find your event location via coordinates (example 54, 9) in Decentraland. At RLTY, we are creating a lot of these event landing pages: all available from our homepage in the event section.
2. Connect your wallet
Once your new wallet is set up and the browser extension installed, you should see a popup from MetaMask. When you see the popup, log in and click “sign” to approve your connection to Decentraland or the Sandbox.
3. Set up your avatar
Since it’s your first time logging in, you’ll need to set up your avatar. As you can see below, there are plenty of options to customize your avatar.
If it’s your first time on the platform and you’re in a hurry, there’s a button to randomize or quickly generate a character. After that, you’ll need to give your new character a name.
4. You’re in the Metaverse!
You should be able to move around the event space with your character now. We recommend closing out other tabs or apps to ensure a smoother user experience.

Yes! You can edit your avatar at any time. Digital merch and body customizations are becoming increasingly popular as more brands and players join the metaverse.
